Garland County 2022 Special Election

Important Information for ALL Garland County Voters

Lately, we have heard a lot about the Fountain Lake School District Proposed Millage Increase but not much about the other proposals being offered at the upcoming 2022 Garland County Special Election. (Note: the FLSD millage increase affects all taxpayers in the FLSD School District including some in Garland and some in Saline County.) This article addresses Garland County residents and also outlines the additional content on the Garland County ballot. Issues Proposed for Garland County Voters at the Upcoming Special Election (Ballot Content):

  • County-Wide 0.625% Sales and Use Tax – Garland County voters only!
  • Fountain Lake School District – 39.8 Mill School Tax Garland and Saline County voters residing in Fountain Lake School District. Click here for more information on the FLSD proposed millage increase.
  • Mountain Pine School District – 45.1 Mill School Tax Garland County voters residing in Mountain Pine School District.

What ALL Garland County Voters Need to Know

  •  The Garland County Special Election is on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.
  • There are three ways to vote in the Garland County Special Election. 1) Absentee Voting, 2) Early Voting (dates and times listed below), and 3) Regular In-Person Voting on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.
  • You must be registered in order to vote.

Registration

 Click here to check your registration status and make sure it matches your current address.  This is important to do ASAP.   (Note:  All Garland County registered voters in the household may vote.  This is not the same as the HSVPOA elections where there is only one vote per property.)

  • If you still need to register to vote, fill out the Voter Registration Application Form and mail it to your local election official: County Clerk, 501 OUACHITA RM 103 HOT SPRINGS, AR 71901.  The Voter Registration Form is provided below for you to download.  It can also be downloaded here. (Note: The application is 7 pages long.  The rest of the document contains instructions for all 50 states and while you may want to read/print the Arkansas instructions, you may not want to print instructions for all 50 states.)
  • The Voter Registration Application Form must be mailed by Friday, Jan 7.
  • If you don’t have a printer,  please contact your local election official at (501) 622-3610 to find out how to obtain the voting forms.
1) Absentee Voting

If you plan to vote by mail, you will need a valid excuse.  The valid excuses are listed on the Application for Absentee Ballot form which is  available to read/download at the bottom of this article. 

2) Early In-person Voting

Early voting for the Garland County Special Election is being held from Tuesday, February 1, 2022 until Monday, February 7, 2022.  The early voting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Tuesday February 1, 2022
  • Wednesday February 2, 2022
  • Thursday February 3, 2022
  • Friday February 4, 2022
  • Monday February 7, 2022

NO SATURDAY VOTING

There are two locations for early voting:

  • Garland County Election Commission
    649 Ouachita Ave., Hot Springs
  • Community Baptist Church
    3518 North Hwy 7, Hot Springs
3) Regular In-person Voting

If you are planning to vote on election day, February 8, 2022, the polls are open at all election locations from 7:30 a.m until 7:30 p.m.

There is no voting inside Hot Springs Village Gates for this election.

  • First Baptist Church of Royal – 7402 Albert Pike, Royal
  • Community Baptist Church – 3518 North Hwy 7, Hot Springs
  • Mountain Pine City Hall –309 4th Ave., Mountain Pine
  • Jessieville First Baptist Church – 174 Beaudry Circle, Jessieville
  • Fountain Lake School – 4207 Park Ave., Hot Springs
