HSVPOA BOD held their August 21, 2019 meeting in a room filled beyond capacity. I made a request to the Board Chair, Cindi Erickson, to please move the meeting to the Woodlands Auditorium. Cindi Erickson and Lesley Nalley, CEO, refused to move the meeting to more adequate accommodations, stating that they were already set up in the Ouachita Room. They did agree to bring in more chairs.
After my request, the staff brought in more chairs to the meeting room and also lined the hallway with extra chairs. There were still not enough chairs. There was standing room only and at least 50 property owners were forced to either sit in the hallway or stand in the meeting room and hallway for a three and a half-hour meeting. Below is a transcription of the HSVPOA BOD Meeting final comments made by the Board Directors.
Cindi Erickson
Erickson: Okay, forgive me for skipping. I guess it is a long meeting. Next up is Board Member comments – opportunity to make some final comments. Diana, let me start with you.
Diana Podawiltz
Podawiltz: I stand by my convictions that the Governance Committee should be just like our other standing committees, made up of non-board members with a Board and staff liaison. There isn’t anything this committee should be doing, of a sensitive nature that prohibits this makeup.
Podawiltz: As a member of the Board, I view our role as a legislative branch. Our CEO is the executive branch. The Governance Committee should be the supreme court.
Podawiltz: We are fast approaching our 50th anniversary and we are a divided community. I had hoped to be able to bring some healing. I am finding that to be an impossible task, due to the role to which I have been relegated. To my knowledge, I am the only Board Member in our history who was not given a liaison to any standing committee.
Podawiltz: Yes, I am the chair of the audit committee and I will help write the scope of the audit. And I appointed myself to the unofficial role of the Townhouse Association liaison. This is just something that I thought the community should be made aware of.
Podawiltz: As a multi-decade Cubs fan, I understand the wait-till-next-year philosophy. However, we are facing a major decision, in regards to the renovation of Balboa Golf Course and its Clubhouse and we’re going to have to make that within the next 30 days. I would appreciate input from all property owners. (clapping)
Mike Medica
Mike Medica: Yesterday, I was involved with the Golf Committee on three interviews for filling a position that was open and was pleased with all three. It was very difficult to select even one of them. But Bruce Limozaine was selected for the Golf Committee. I think he currently runs the UGA Nine Holes and maybe even the Wild Ones, whatever that is.
Medica: Also, I want to say that last night my wife and I were on Danville Road. The bridge after the gate has been paved. It is a lot nicer. So that road looks like it is finally done.

Dick Garrison
Dick Garrison: It hasn’t been publicized, for whatever reason, but I will be at the Let’s Talk Saturday morning at 9:00 at DeSoto.
Nancy Luehring/Tormey Campagna
Luehring: I tried to explain to Dick why it hadn’t been – because we’ve been switching around. (She then talks about how they trade with each other.)

Kirk Denger has announced and invited property owners to a meeting on Monday, August 26th at the Desoto Club. The purpose of this meeting is apparently to organize property owners so as to find a way to recall/un-seat 5 BOD members. The details of this agenda item were a bit sketchy.
While I surely understand and support this action, we should not enter into this mission without substantial preparedness and a detailed organization plan.
I admire Kirk for taking the lead on such a mission, however, in my humble opinion, it would be best for Kirk to first find notable other property owners that share his opinion, hold some preliminary strategy meetings, lay our a plan of action and then, later, invite the supportive public to a open forum to gain support and funding for such a cause.
The reality of Kirk’s mission is that it will cost money – lots of money. Lawyers will need to be hired and extensive communiques to property owners will have to be deployed.
I would respectably suggest to Kirk that he first form a core group of like minded individuals that can formulate initial goals and objects before inviting property owners to a what appears to be a unorganized meeting of random disgruntled members.
If we are going to “go to war” with Lesley and the BOD, we really need to be prepared for the worst counterattack by the POA that any of us have ever witnessed. Remember, the POA, (Lesley) have the big guns and the deep pockets (our money) and she will surely have no compunction about using vast sums of money to fund a campaign against any such mission to unseat 5 Board members.
Please! Think before you act.
The opposition, now, already knows to expect an assault.
We are already at a disadvantage.

I think having a meeting is a great idea. How are we going to know who is interested in what….just see how many show up. I am so disappointed that it has come to this. Disappointed in the directors, except for two brave souls, in
Leslie, why the need for so much power. I have heard you talk so often, right from when you were hired, I was impressed, but now you speak so down to people and always have to be right, shame on you.
But back to the meeting, we somehow have to start something just like they did in Hong Kong.
Do not be afraid to get involved, either way we should be able to have a discussion. I am sick to death of politics…here and there! This is not my happy place anymore.

Thank you Anonymous 08/23/2019-2:29pm for your assistance. We the members meeting is certainly not an assault or a surprise attack or war with the POA and therefore we do not have a disadvantage. The BOD/CEO have no power over the Members of HSVPOA who have no need for secret meetings to hide regular Member communications which have developed a core for the past 16 months. Personal interaction of collective minds is the timeliest method to show the will of the membership who have all the power over the BOD. The way is clear and will not cost you a dime. Members may simply evaluate the performances of the BODs and votes may be Yea or Nay for removal and replacement. Looking forward to members enjoying our DeSoto Club. The bar is open till 7 pm.

Perhaps the fire department should have been called to determine if the maximum occupancy was exceeded. This is a huge safety issue. Cindy’s refusal to move the meeting presented a potential hazard to those attending.
