HSVPOA ON TOP OF PANDEMIC CRISIS

By former Board Director, Frank Leeming, March 18, 2020

POA doing excellent job staying on top of the growing pandemic crisis

The plan to bar property owners from recording POA board and committee meetings was yanked from the POA board agenda yesterday about 30 minutes after our blog went out.  Director Nancy Luehring, who was to introduce the ban, said it was a mistake.

The POA is doing an outstanding job dealing with the virus pandemic.  It has kept us informed, taken the right steps and been on top of the problem from the beginning.  In this time of crisis, it is great to see.

As if the new board didn’t have enough challenges to address when it takes over next month, the economic fallout from the pandemic will be monstrous.

Virtually every revenue stream coming in to the POA is being suppressed, yet the cost of doing business will go on.

Most of us have heard the experts say this new restricted life will last at least 45 days, and perhaps three months or longer.  It’s impossible for my aging mind to get a grip on all this.

The impact on our neighbors and our nation will rise steadily as the number of cases goes up.  Many of us will go stir crazy as we sit and listen to the news worsen.  I’m lucky because I’m a hermit at heart and have a great live-in partner, but many aren’t so lucky and stress is certain to build.

The inability to go to the office, shopping, go out to eat with friends, go to a show, join others at church or exercise at the Fitness Center or travel will be tough.

I’m most concerned about those who can’t care for themselves and must rely on others.  This was our church’s month to deliver Meals on Wheels in the Village.  It is sad and depressing in normal times to see how some of us are limited by illness, loneliness or income.  And then McAuley Center was closed last week by the pandemic and Meals on Wheels was canceled.  Extreme hardship coming for many.

We should all give thanks, support and pray for those service and medical workers who continue to work each day in our hospitals, medical clinics, stores, restaurants, banks, churches and other places as income slows and the threat of exposure to the virus increases.  We thank you.
