The Hot Springs Village POA Architectural Control Committee (ACC) met at the Coronado Community Center (CCC) on April 21, 2022. Eight new home permits were approved in addition to approval of permits on 11 existing homes. A real estate agent inquired about permitting for a domed home, while a property owner addressed the committee about the denial of his permit at the previous ACC meeting.
Building a Domed Home in the Village?
A ReMax real estate agent said he was approached by an individual wanting to build a domed house in the Village. HSVPOA Board liaison, Tucker Omohundro, said that the location where the proposed home will be built is an important consideration for the committee. The location is what the decision will be based on.
ACC Chair, Janet Rowe stated, “It is supposed to blend in with the existing neighborhoods.”
Owner Disagrees with Decision Made by ACC
The property owner at 3 Adoracion Way addressed the ACC about a permit denied for aesthetic reasons at the April 7 ACC Meeting. The property owner wanted to build a stand-alone garage in the front yard. The committee said that the additional garage would block off what little you can see of the front of the house as it is now. In other words, the view from the road would be mostly garage sides and garage walls, instead of a view of the house.
The ACC agreed to drive by the property for a second look.

Hi Peggy. Thanks for commenting. It is true there are domed homes in the Village. It is my understanding that what ACC is looking for when they approve permits is that the new home fit in with the neighborhood. There are places where a domed home would fit well with the existing architecture and places where it wouldn’t. Hope that helps.

While I am not particularly a fan of dome houses, I do believe there is a need for variation of styles in the Village. If you’ve seen one Cooper-house, you pretty much have seen them all …with a few exceptions of course. And just because a house is different shouldn’t make it more expensive either. The lack of creativity in spec homes is depressing. But I get it –it’s about money for the builder and building the same house a million times equals more money for them. It doesn’t help the community value though.
