OP-ED* Hot Springs Village

The Many Faces of HSV

Hot Springs Village is a wonderful place, with great diversity among the people living here. In an attempt to better understand the “conversations” circulating in the Village these days, this allegory is being presented as food for thought.

Villagers fall into 4 basic categories…

Category A

These people are given a $100 bill. They enthusiastically thank the benefactor, reach into their own pocket to see how much money they can add to the $100, then take the time and effort to locate someone or something that needs the money.

Category B

These people are also given a $100 bill. They thank the benefactor, then look to the Category A people for ideas on what to do with the $100. They then share the $100 as suggested.

Category C

These people are also given a $100 bill. They shrug their shoulders, mutter a thank you, and put the $100 bill in their pocket.

Category D

These people are also given a $100 bill. They grab it, pocket it, and complain to the benefactor that it should be more money. They wanted more money and this money is probably stolen anyway!

Which type of Villager are you?

End of story…

*”An op-ed, short for “opposite the editorial page,” is a written prose piece typically published by a newspaper or magazine that expresses the opinion of an author usually not affiliated with the publication’s editorial board.  Op-eds are different from both editorials (opinion pieces submitted by editorial board members) and letters to the editor (opinion pieces submitted by readers).” This definition is from Wikipedia.
