About LLI of HSV
“The Lifelong Learning Institute of Hot Springs Village is a “group of volunteers who are committed to remaining engaged through continued education, monthly gatherings, fun outings, sharing the arts locally and in other areas of Arkansas, local and distance travel, and networking.”
According to their website:
LLI offers community education and entertainment programs, as well as educational travel opportunities in partnership with the Hot Springs Village Property Owners Association. Their goal is to enrich Villagers’ lives through continued learning. Members of LLI receive discounts on the classes and events. Nonmembers may attend events for a slightly higher fee. As the head of the HSV Chapter of Lifelong Learning Institute, Larry Wilson arranges for classes and events on a wide variety of topics.
Interview w/ AR Game & Fish Commission
One of the recent events LLI sponsored was an Interview with the AR Game & Fish Commission, Casey Hardaway on Bear Safety. Due to being quarantined for two weeks because of possible exposure to COVID-19, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Southwest Regional Educator, Casey Hardaway, was unable to give the Bear Safety Presentation on August 11, 2020. Instead, Todd Noles, HSVPOA Manager of Common Property, Forestry, and Wildlife filled in.
Wilson was able to have a Zoom meeting with Hardaway on August 13, 2020. Below is a video of this meeting.
Upcoming Zoom interview with David Hill (The Vapors)
Wilson is planning a Zoom meeting soon with the author, David Hill. David is the author of, “The Vapors.” At one time “The Vapors” was one of the biggest nightclubs in Hot Springs. Hill’s book has been described as turbulent, haunting, and named one of the ten best July books by The Washington Post and The Christian Science Monitor. It is a true story of American’s first and overlooked capital of vice – Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Upcoming LLI events
LLI dance classes
LLI of HSV is offering dance classes starting next Tuesday at the Woodlands Auditorium stage. Jennifer Vaughn-Varney is teaching 4-week classes for dance beginners and also for intermediate learners.
The beginner class is for those dancers who have zero to three years of experience and will focus on ballet and tap. The class begins on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. at the Woodlands Auditorium stage.
The intermediate class is for dancers who have three to five years of experience and will focus on jazz and contemporary dance. Intermediate class begins on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. at the Woodlands Auditorium stage.

Rock Porch featuring Bill Whyte
On September 12, 2020, at HSV Grove Park, LLI along with the HSVPOA Recreation Department is hosting a Rock Porch session featuring Mr. Bill Whyte. Bill, a member of “Hits and Grins,” is from Nashville where he is a radio personality on WSM. This event is will be from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
“Originally from Missouri, Bill Whyte is a songwriter, comedian, radio announcer, performer, and more.”
Zoom classes planned
There are a number of free zoom classes being planned for the future. These classes will be on various topics. Stay tuned to learn what exciting and fun classes will be offered!
