A Tribute to Police Officers Everywhere

I cannot say enough about our wonderful police officers. I remember when I was a tiny little girl, I got lost from my parents at the Texas State Fair in Dallas. Even at that age (I think around three or four), I knew they represented safety and I ran to a policeman. He held me, dried my tears, and comforted me by telling me he was lost too and that we could play together until Mommy and Daddy found us. He even got me a teddy bear from one of the carnival vendors. He picked me up and put me on his shoulders so I could be easily seen as he walked me through the crowd. He also let the other police officers working the fair know he had found a lost little girl, via his radio, and let me tell them on the radio that I had found a lost policeman. It’s one of my first and favorite memories.  ♥ ♥ ♥

And here’s the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey used to say…Fast forward 60+ years. Many months ago, I hit a deer here in Hot Springs Village. It didn’t kill him but he was mightily hurt. I immediately called the police and the officer I spoke with was so kind. I was extremely upset to know that I was responsible for that poor animal flailing around in the middle of the road. Since my car was driveable, he urged me to go on home (it was less than a mile) and said he would meet me there. I was leaning against my car, still sobbing when he arrived. He got out of his patrol car and walked toward me with his arms open, and softly said, “I think someone needs a hug.” And yes, it was EXACTLY what I needed at that moment in time. As a widow, I miss the comfort of a strong man who is gentle and kind. God bless and protect our LEOs! They are such special people with incredibly big hearts.  ♥ ♥ ♥
