Message from Saline County Judge Arey
To All Saline County Residents,
For weeks I have been sending daily updates for Saline County along with a spreadsheet with the local numbers as it relates to COVID-19. We have been receiving this data from the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH). Several times over the last several weeks I have also included a link to the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) online map that shows the numbers of COVID-19 by county, that data is also supplied by ADH.
If you look at the spreadsheet that is attached you will notice what looks like a big drop in the number of Confirmed Positive Cases. The reason is last week ADH changed its method for tracking active cases online. If you go to the ADEM map online and click on Saline County, you will probably see that we have 67 positive cases. That number has changed from being a “current” number to a historical one that tracks all confirmed cases since the virus was found in the state. To get the number of active cases, take the historical total and subtract recoveries and deaths. As you can see, we only show 11 active cases in Saline County as of yesterday.
Yesterday, the Governor issued Proclamation Executive Order 20-25 amending and extending his original Executive Order 20-03 declaring a public health emergency for COVID-19 for 45 days, which will be Friday, June 19, 2020. The proclamation primarily reads as and sets forth the culmination of his previous orders. Click here to read the executive order.
Click here to read the ADH directive effective May 4th for businesses, manufacturers, construction companies, and places of worship. The directive requires limitation upon the number of people inside a facility at one time to assure social distancing of 6 feet or more, assure 6 feet of social distancing in lines that form inside or outside of a facility; face coverings or masks are required except for persons under 10 years of age; provision of hand sanitizer, disinfectant or soap and water near the entrance and other areas, regularly disinfect high-frequency surfaces; signs posted at all entrances advising entry to be denied to persons with symptoms as set forth; signs posted to caution entry for those of 65 or older or health conditions.
I and other County Officials are monitoring Governor Hutchinson’s directives regarding the re-opening of businesses, restaurants, and venues. Saline County is currently evaluating how these directives can be put in place in regard to county buildings. At this time county buildings remain restricted to the public with limited access. The public is encouraged to conduct business online, by email, or phone; and to an appointment where an in-person meeting is required.
This is the first weekly update as I announced last week and moving away from a daily update. I look forward to a time where I no longer feel like an update is needed with regard to COVID-19. It is my hope that we are moving in that direction. Risk has dropped but isn’t going away. We will continue to monitor the situation and act in the safety of County citizens.
