The following Trash Collection Process came out on January 15, 2022, in the POA Eblast. Please note that there are a number of changes being made. Edited to add: this new trash collection system is not for the Townhomes. They have their own system and a non-POA trash company serves their needs.
New Trash Collection Process
This guide provides directions for using your new trash cart and obtaining other services from your Sanitation Department. If, after reviewing these instructions, you still have questions, please call Public Services at 501-922-5524, Monday-Friday, 8 AM-4:30 PM.
Your Current Trash Cans
Prior to January 31, 2022, continue to use your existing trash cans and place them in their usual location for pickup by 7:00 AM on your current trash pickup day. These trash cans are your personal property. The POA sanitation team will not remove them from your property. There will be a voluntary collection of old trash cans at a designated location at a later date. Watch for news of this event in the Village Digest. Again, your current cans are your personal property, and you may repurpose them for storage, gardening, or however you wish.
Your New Trash Cart
Your new cart will be delivered to your home as early as January 17 and not later than January 29. Some residents have chosen the smaller 64-gallon cart. Most residents chose the larger 96-gallon cart. Residents who did not make a choice will receive the 96-gallon cart.
Your [NEW] trash cart is POA property. If you move, please leave the cart at your house.
The new carts will be dark brown with a white Hot Springs Village logo embossed on the side. Each cart will have a day-of-the-week sticker on its lid, as shown in these photos. This sticker tells you what day your trash will be collected.
MO: Monday
TU: Tuesday
W: Wednesday
TH: Thursday
IMPORTANT: The sticker on your cart may show a day of the week that is different from your current trash pickup day. Your trash will be picked up on the day of the week shown on the sticker, regardless of your past pickup day.
A small number of carts will have an “Across the Street” sticker in addition to their day-of-the-week sticker. Homeowners with an Across the Street sticker should place their carts on the opposite side of their street to enable our new trucks to pick up their trash more safely and efficiently. If your cart has an Across the Street sticker, roll your cart to the opposite side of your street and point the open side of the cart toward the street.
Trash Cart Placement
Place your trash cart on the edge of your property within 3 feet of the street (but not IN the street) with the front opening facing the street. This applies to all homeowners – those who have their pickup on the same side of the street OR the opposite side of the street. Be sure your cart is placed at least 4 feet away from adjacent objects, such as mailboxes and vehicles. Our trucks need 4 feet of space to pick up your cart.
Carts must be in place before 7:00 AM on the day of the week shown on the sticker on the cart lid. You may place your carts out for pickup after 6:00 PM the day before pickup. Please remove your cart within 24 hours of placement.
At-House Pickup
If you prefer to have your trash cart picked up close to your house, instead of at the street, you must apply for At-House Sanitation Pickup. Look below for the Pickup Form and Waiver of Liability. The monthly fee for At-House Sanitation Pickup is $35. If you have a letter from your doctor stating that you are medically disabled, you can receive a 20% discount on this fee.
At-House Sanitation Pickup and Waiver of Liability Form
At_House_application_and_waiver_formLarge Item Special Pickups

Each bag must have a sticker that can be purchased from the POA at our Administrative Building at 895 DeSoto Blvd. between 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, Monday-Friday. Stickers are sold in lots of 5 for $5.

I just hope they keep all the old trucks and fix them up. It is likely they will be needed to fill in when problems occur with these new ones.

If all trash must be in bags inside the cart what do we do with cardboard boxes, which will not easily fit in a bag even when broken down?

Recycle station on Hwy 7 on the left just before the Fox Pass Cutoff. No cost. Cardboard has to be corrugated. They take cans, iron, electronics, glass & #1 & #2 plastic. Also a bin for clean used shoes & clothing.

What do we do with the trash cans we have. What about the charges for picking up the bags does that remain the same?

Michael, when you say “charges for picking up the bags” do you mean the yard waste bags? Thanks.

What happens if you have other trash cans that are not the new ones with trash in it and it’s placed out with them?

As far as I know, the new sanitation system requires us to use only the new trash carts. I do not work for the POA, so it would be best if you still have questions, please call Public Services at 501-922-5524, Monday-Friday, 8 AM-4:30 PM. Thanks.

One large can is not enough for us. What is the process/charge for a second can?
HSVP C
01/21/2022 — 12:46 am
Brandy, call the Public Service Office at 501-922-5528 or 501-922-5524 to see about getting a second cart. If you have curbside pickup it is $9.00 extra a month for the second trash cart in addition to $16.40 per month for the first trash cart. Keep in mind the POA utility bills are bi-monthly (meaning we are billed for 2 months at a time). Thanks.

John, while it is against the policy of this website to publish comments/questions without a first and last name, I am making an exception in this case. Call the Public Service Office at 501-922-5528 or 501-922-5524. Thank you.

I got a large trash can which I ordered but would like to trade for the smaller one.

Rick, it was stated in our Facebook Group that the POA is out of smaller cans and even some people who ordered the smaller can are receiving the larger can. Whether this is accurate or not, I do not have first-hand knowledge. You can call the Public Service Office at 501-922-5528 or 501-922-5524 and ask. I hope they have what you need. Please let us know what they say. Thanks.

Our neighbors appear to have received their carts:however, there was no cart left at our home. We ordered a 96 gallon and live on Pontevedra Drive.

Bethany, it appears the smaller size was delivered. We don’t think the bigger size was delivered on Pontevedra, yet.

I ordered the 64 gallon but received the 96 gallon. I was told that they ran out and would be getting some later.
When can I expect the exchange, since I do not want the 96.

Hi Will, great question. Thanks for asking. Here is what was said at the Board Meeting on January 26.
What happens if you wanted a 64-gallon can, but received a 96-gallon can?
Those folks who have Wednesday and Thursday pickup will receive a 96-gallon trash cart, even if they ordered the smaller, 64-gallon cart. “I apologize for this inconvenience, but we will be getting them changed out in time.” Some people changed their size after the original cart purchase order and because of this, not enough 64-gallon carts were purchased. Temple said he has ordered 200 more 64-gallon carts.
Board Chair, Joanie Corry asked, “Jason, just to be clear. I have gotten questions from people who have received the wrong size trash bin/container and my understanding of what you told me just a few minutes ago is that they should go ahead and use the size they got.” “You will be, within the next couple of months, be able to replace the can with the size they requested.”
Temple said, “absolutely. Just be sure to call my office at 922-5524 and we will get that coordinated for you. We do appreciate your grace and patience as we get that resolved.”

I read the article in the voice. The words “opening should face the street ” should have been included.

What are we supposed to do with branches? They won’t fit in the bags. Are they still supposed to be tied in 4’ bundles and tagged?
